Celtic Connections

In four days time I shall be flying (ooooh!) up to Glasgow to join Trembling Bells and their guests, at Oran Mor as part of the Celtic Connections Festival. It feels a bit strange because I will be without my safety net of The Perfect Strangers, but it should be an interesting and entertaining couple of days

Trembling Bells & Friends: The Last Ceilidh

Glaswegian psych-folk wizards Trembling Bells – five “obsessive, pedantic, maladjusted, unemployable nerds”, according to overlord Alex Neilson - have long been both vocal and active in honouring their debt to 1960s/70s British folk adventurers, especially the Incredible String Band: they’ve gigged extensively with co-founder Mike Heron, and welcome him as a guest of honour here. Others include Fairport Convention’s first female singer, Judy Dyble; Ricky Ross, Stevie Jackson, Dan Haywood and Alasdair Roberts, while Trembling Bells themselves overlap into acappella harmony quartet Crying Lion. Support comes from arresting Bradford songstress Stephanie Hladowski and Glasgow trio Family Elan, purveyors of “21st century acid-world-folk” (The Wire).
